DHAKA, BANGLADESH – The World Health Organization (WHO) has confirmed a fatal case of Nipah virus in Bangladesh, a country located in South Asia.
According to WHO:
A patient in Bangladesh died after contracting the Nipah virus, which was laboratory-confirmed on January 29. The patient was admitted to hospital on January 28, where a team collected throat swabs and blood samples.
Risk of Global Spread Remains Low
The WHO has stated that the risk of the disease spreading internationally still remains low. Authorities in Bangladesh are taking steps to contain the virus and prevent further transmission.
