Russia–Ukraine War: Drone Attacks Kill Civilians, Infrastructure Hit as Fighting Continues on Day 1,459

Kyiv/Moscow: Fighting between Russia and Ukraine intensified on day 1,459 of the war, with drone strikes, shelling and missile attacks reported across multiple regions, resulting in civilian casualties, infrastructure damage and continued military escalation on both sides.

Civilian Casualties Reported in Multiple Regions

Ukrainian authorities said a Russian drone strike in the northeastern Sumy region killed four people, including a 17-year-old boy. In the southeastern Zaporizhia region, another attack killed a 77-year-old man.

In the Odesa region, Russian strikes wounded two people and damaged residential buildings, vehicles and an energy facility. A separate attack in the Dnipropetrovsk region left a 77-year-old man injured.

In the eastern Donetsk region, Governor Vadym Filashkin reported that Russian shelling wounded four people in 18 separate attacks over the course of the day. Authorities also evacuated 562 civilians, including 244 children, from front-line areas due to ongoing security risks.

Industrial and Civilian Infrastructure Targeted

Russian forces reportedly struck a facility belonging to US food company Mondelez in the Sumy region. Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha condemned the attack, accusing Moscow of targeting American business interests and undermining prospects for economic dialogue with the United States.

In the frontline Kherson region, Russian shelling wounded two police officers and one civilian. Authorities said the attacks damaged apartment buildings, private homes, a hospital and several public facilities.

Military Developments on Both Sides

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said security forces had thwarted assassination attempts allegedly planned by Russian mercenaries against senior military officials, intelligence personnel and journalists.

Meanwhile, Russia’s Defence Ministry claimed its forces had captured the village of Karpivka in Ukraine’s eastern Donetsk region, according to state media reports.

On Russian territory, Ukrainian drone strikes wounded a man and a three-year-old child in the Belgorod region, according to Russian officials.

Ukraine’s military also said its domestically produced “Flamingo” cruise missiles struck a Russian ballistic missile production facility in the Udmurtia region and a gas plant in the Samara region, marking a continued expansion of Ukraine’s long-range strike capabilities.

War Shows No Signs of De-Escalation

The latest wave of attacks highlights the continued intensity of the conflict, with both sides targeting military, industrial and strategic infrastructure while civilian areas remain vulnerable. The war, now in its fourth year, continues to exact a heavy human and economic toll amid ongoing military operations and stalled diplomatic efforts.
