Seoul — Samsung Electronics announced on Monday that it has begun supporting interoperability between its Android file-sharing platform, Quick Share, and Apple’s AirDrop. This development allows Galaxy S26 series users to seamlessly exchange photos and files with iPhone devices.

The South Korean tech giant stated that the update, which is now available to Galaxy S26 series users, enables file sharing with iPhones running iOS, according to Yonhap News Agency. Both Quick Share and AirDrop utilize Bluetooth technology to identify nearby devices and facilitate the transfer of photos, videos, contact details, and other files. However, until now, they lacked cross-platform support.

“AirDrop support will initially be available on the Galaxy S26 series, with plans to expand to additional devices in the future,” Samsung said in a statement. The feature will roll out in major markets, including the United States and Europe, starting Wednesday.

A company official highlighted, “We have maximized user convenience by enabling Galaxy users to communicate seamlessly with users of devices operating on different systems.”

New Car-to-Home Service Launched

In addition, Samsung revealed the launch of a new Car-to-Home service in partnership with Hyundai Motor Group. This service allows drivers to control home appliances remotely via Samsung’s SmartThings platform from their vehicles.

The feature enables users to activate appliances such as air conditioners, air purifiers, and robot vacuum cleaners through in-car screens. For instance, drivers can turn on “home mode” to activate cooling and lighting as they approach their residences, or switch to “away mode” to power down unused appliances and operate the vacuum cleaner.

The service is available on Hyundai and Kia vehicles produced after November 2022 that support connected car infotainment systems. Samsung and the automakers plan to expand this functionality to additional models through future software updates.
