Arshdeep Singh Bowls Joint-Longest Over In IPL After Numerous Wides, No-Ball For PBKS vs GT

In a challenging outing for Punjab Kings (PBKS), pace spearhead Arshdeep Singh faced criticism after a costly over in their clash against Gujarat Titans (GT). The home-grown left-arm pacer, India’s leading wicket-taker in T20Is with 127 dismissals, conceded 42 runs in four overs, marking the highest economy rate of 10.50 among PBKS bowlers in the match. Notably, he bowled an 11-ball final over—joint-longest in IPL history—which included five wides and a no-ball. This performance drew comparisons to other infamous overs in IPL history, including those by Mohammed Siraj, Tushar Deshpande, Shardul Thakur, Sandeep Sharma, and Hardik Pandya.

Despite the setback, Punjab Kings’ overall bowling effort saw veteran leg-spinner Yuzvendra Chahal shine by restricting GT to 162/6. Chahal finished with impressive figures of 2/28 in four overs, while seam bowler Vijaykumar Vyshak claimed 3/34.

In response, GT’s top contributors were skipper Shubman Gill and Jos Buttler, who scored 39 and 38 respectively. Gill, in particular, was in commanding form, racing to 35 runs within the first three overs with aggressive boundary-hitting. His display prompted PBKS captain Shreyas Iyer to introduce left-arm pacer Marco Jansen, who soon dismissed Sai Sudharsan for 13, providing a crucial breakthrough for PBKS.

Jos Buttler, returning from a disappointing T20 World Cup, found his rhythm with elegant strokes, including a boundary and a six, after starting cautiously. The opening pair ended the powerplay at 54/1, but Chahal’s introduction in the eighth over proved pivotal. The leg-spinner, who has a strong record against Gill, dismissed the opener attempting a big shot, bringing in Glenn Phillips and Buttler to accelerate the scoring with aggressive shots, including a six over long-on by Phillips and a boundary by Buttler.

The match remains tightly contested, with both teams showcasing moments of brilliance amidst the pressure.
