Rahul Gandhi’s piece was denounced by royal family leaders, including Union minister Jyotiraditya Scindia, who said, “Those who sell hatred have no right to lecture on Indian pride and history.”
He claimed that Rahul Gandhi, who has a colonial mentality, is ignorant of Bharat’s rich history and ought to honor real Indian heroes rather than disparaging Bharat Mata.

“Those who propagate hatred have no right to give lectures about Indian history and pride. @RahulGandhi’s colonial mentality and lack of knowledge of Bharat’s rich history have gone too far. In a post on X (previously Twitter), Scindia said, “If you claim to ‘uplift’ the nation, stop insulting Bharat Mata and learn about true Indian heroes like Mahadji Scindia, Yuvraj Bir Tikendrajit, Kittur Chennamma, and Rani Velu Nachiyar, who fiercely fought for our freedom.”

Rahul Gandhi’s affluent upbringing, according to the Union minister, betrays a lack of understanding of the actual hardships faced by Indians.

“Those who are genuinely trying to overcome difficulties are harmed by your selective amnesia regarding your own privilege. Rahul Gandhi is not an advocate of Atmanirbhar Bharat; rather, he is a byproduct of an antiquated entitlement. Your dissonance simply serves to highlight Congress’ purpose. The title “Gandhi” is neither the beginning nor the end of India’s legacy. Only under the leadership of Prime Minister Shri @narendramodi Ji are the tales of our true heroes being honored. Don’t try to speak for Bharat; instead, respect her past! Scindia was added.

Divya Kumari, a BJP lawmaker and deputy chief minister of Rajasthan, claimed that the ideal of an undivided India could only come true due to the ultimate sacrifice made by India’s former royal families.

“I vehemently disagree with Mr. Rahul Gandhi’s attempt to disparage India’s former royal dynasties in an editorial today. Only through the ultimate sacrifice of India’s former royal families was the dream of an undivided India achievable. It is totally wrong to make unfounded accusations based on a skewed view of historical facts,” Kumari said on X.

Rahul Gandhi claimed in his opinion post for The Indian Express that the East India Company’s repressive rule, not its commercial acumen, was the reason India remained silent throughout that time.

He said that by forming alliances with, bribing, and intimidating more submissive maharajas and nawabs, the Company repressed India.

Lok Sabha MP Yaduveer Wadiyar attacked Gandhi, claiming that the Congress leader’s “lack of knowledge of true history is on constant display.”

“His most recent statement, made in an article this morning, shows his lack of knowledge about the contributions made by the former princely states to modern-day India, the support of Bharatiya Heritage, without which we might have lost many of the customs we cherish today, and—above all—the sacrifices they made to create a united India.” In a post on X, Wadiyar stated, “I strongly condemn his choice of words in the article, and the insinuations made by him.”
