Landing a job at Google is a dream of millions of people. Working in the company is not only a symbol of status but also a top career goal for many. However, common myths about employment continue to exist. In a recently shared video, Neha Sharma, a digital marketer at Google, has busted some of the lingering misconceptions about hiring.

Who is Neha Sharma?

Neha Sharma is currently working as a digital marketer at Google. Her Instagram bio states that she is a former Tata Steel Ltd employee and holds an MBA degree.

Google employee reveals how to get job at tech giant

In the viral clip shared on Instagram, Sharma explained what she believed several candidates got wrong about the hiring process. Addressing three key myths, starting with the idea that Google only hired coders, she said, “Whenever people hear Google, the first thing they think is coding.” She clarified that the company also hired extensively for non-tech roles. “If everyone’s going to code, who is going to sell what we build?” she mentioned.

Myth on interview expectations

Sharma further commented on interview expectations, pushing back against the notion that only flawless candidates were considered necessary. According to her, Google does not prioritize “perfect answers” and is more concerned about how candidates thought and solved problems in tough circumstances. “Google looks for people who can work under difficult situation solving problems not someone who delivers perfect answers in an interview.”

“No IIT, IIM needed”

Addressing another broadly held view, Sharma said that degrees from elite institutions were not obligatory. “I have people in my team who aren’t graduated from IITs or IIMs, still they deliver best outcomes,” she said, pointing out the significance of a candidate’s work profile and skills matter more than their academic background.

Netizens react

The video quickly went viral, with many users saying it offered a refreshing and reassuring perspective on the hiring process at Google. “We think Google is only for high-tech or creamy or experienced members . But from this clip, we learned that if you have the ability to learn or want to develop your skills, then Google is the best place. You have busted this myth. Thanks Neha,” a user said.
