Following the blockbuster success of the Dhurandhar franchise, audiences are eagerly awaiting Aditya Dhar’s next move. While the director has yet to make an official announcement, reports suggest he is exploring multiple ideas for his upcoming projects.
According to an exclusive report in Variety India, Dhar is currently developing three scripts: The Immortal Ashwatthama, a historical epic; a high-scale sports drama; and potentially other ideas.
The Immortal Ashwatthama, Dhar’s long-standing dream project, has been in development for several years but was put on hold due to its enormous budget. However, with Dhar’s recent string of hits, studios are now reportedly willing to fund the ambitious film.
Sources indicate that Dhar is particularly interested in a historical epic set during the reign of Chandragupta Maurya, the founder of the Maurya Empire. He has been in discussions with actor Ranveer Singh about this project since last year, and they are expected to revisit the idea once the buzz around Dhurandhar settles. The story promises a grand canvas, filled with high drama, action, and treachery—elements that have yet to be explored in Indian cinema.
Additionally, Dhar is contemplating a sports drama, which is currently in the ideation phase. However, the filmmaker plans to take a brief hiatus before diving into his next project, opting for a small break after his recent successes.
