Los Angeles, February 5, 2026 – Nick Jonas has shared heartfelt details about his daughter Malti’s early days, revealing she was born under intense circumstances and spent nearly 100 days in neonatal intensive care.
During a recent appearance on the On Purpose podcast, Jonas recounted that Malti was born earlier than expected, with the birth arriving unexpectedly in an emergency situation. “She came into the world under very intense circumstances,” he said. “We were expecting her in April, and suddenly we got a call that it was going to be sooner.”
He described her initial condition, saying she appeared “purple” shortly after birth. “She was 1 pound, 11 ounces, and basically purple,” Jonas explained. Malti was born via surrogate, and her early days were marked by urgent medical intervention, including resuscitation.
Nick revealed that Malti spent nearly three and a half months in a neonatal intensive care unit (NICU), with the situation feeling perilous at times. “The NICU angels resuscitated her quickly, intubated her, and took care of her,” he shared. Due to COVID-19 restrictions, Nick and his wife Priyanka Chopra took turns doing 12-hour shifts at the hospital, experiencing the emotional toll firsthand. “I could still, sort of, smell it,” he said.
He praised the NICU nurses, calling them “truly angels,” and described the daily routine of visiting the hospital as a “crazy” experience, seeing each other only as passing ships.
Nick also shared that Malti is aware of the “first chapter of her life,” noting that “every day is a gift,” and reflecting on her vibrant personality. “Spiritually, I believe there’s gratitude in her, and she’s incredible,” he added.
Nick Jonas and Priyanka Chopra welcomed Malti via surrogate in January 2022, and the couple has spoken openly about their journey and the challenges they faced during her early days.
