Sydney Sweeney decided to share her “five-point plan” to break into Hollywood during her Saturday Night Live monologue, as well as joke about the romance rumors with her former co-star Glen Powell.
The actress kicked off her hosting debut, joking, “You have seen me in Anyone But You and Euphoria. You definitely did not see me in Madame Web,” following the Sony film’s brutal critic reviews. “But I do have a new film coming out called Immaculate. I play a nun, so it’s perfect casting,” she added.
Sweeney went on to express that she wanted “everyone to get to know the real me” on Saturday, saying, “I feel like people only see me as the girl on TV who screams, cries and has sex. Sometimes it’s all three at the same time.”
The Euphoria star shared a bit about growing up in her hometown in Spokane, Washington, and praised her parents for driving 19 hours to Los Angeles so she could audition for film and television roles. “I’m so grateful to them for believing in me,” she said.
But Sweeney admits that the only reason they believed in her is because I presented them with a five-point plan to break into acting. It was a PowerPoint presentation and I still have it. … It says, ‘Audition, get an agent, do commercials and short films, then get my SAG Card.’”
However, The White Lotus also had a backup plan in case the first one failed. A slide proceeded to appear on the screen that read, “Plan B: Show boobs.”
The Anyone But You actress made her hosting debut on the NBC sketch comedy series Saturday with Kacey Musgraves.
Sydney Sweeney jokes about being a sex symbol in Hollywood.
The upcoming episode of ‘Saturday Night Live’ kicked off with a bang after Sydney Sweeney appeared in one of the promos. The actress will make her SNL debut this weekend, joined by musical guest Kasey Musgraves.
Sweeney jokes in the segment that her fan base is mostly male, showing her humor and enthusiasm for her role on the show.
After cast member Heidi Gardner noted that she was proud to stand alongside such strong women, Sweeney couldn’t help but crack a joke.
“Love this group of three strong ladies,” Gardner says. “I bet so many women are going to tune in this week.”
Sweeney’s response: ‘Weirdly, a lot of my fans are men.’ Musgraves quips, ‘Hmm, I wonder why.’
Sweeney’s joke about her male fan base is a reference to her image as a sexual symbol, something she has addressed publicly before. Throughout her career, she has excelled in roles that require nudity and sexualization. Instead of fighting public perception, Sweeney has openly discussed body positivity and how her position provides her with empowerment.
It is something she has talked about on many occasions: “I have big breasts and I’m blonde. It’s the only thing people see. I had breasts before other girls and I felt ostracized because of that. Everyone is going to look at my boobs without appreciating the scene for what’s going on, she explained in a 2023 interview with the Washington Post.
