The AI-generated bikini pictures that went viral online on Friday night were criticised by actor Rukmini Vasanth. The Kantara Chapter 1 star stated in a statement that the pictures were fake and threatened to take legal action.
The widely shared images included a woman entering a swimming pool while wearing a green bikini in what looked to be a set-up for a professional photo session. The videos rapidly went viral on social media, igniting debate and giving many viewers the impression that the video was real.
Rukmini makes a declaration
Rukmini distanced herself from the images and claimed the circulating content had nothing to do with her in a statement posted on her Instagram story.
“My team and I have discovered certain AI-generated images circulating online claiming to be me,” she stated. I want to be very clear that these pictures are completely manufactured. Such edited stuff is extremely careless and constitutes a grave invasion of privacy. We are taking this seriously and taking the appropriate legal and criminal action against individuals responsible for producing and disseminating these photographs. I’m asking everyone not to share or interact with such stuff.
Concerns about the increasing abuse of deepfake technology and artificial intelligence, especially in relation to celebrities, have been rekindled by the occurrence.
