Dr. Pragya Tomar, a gynecologist at Spandan Hospital in Baraut, posted the video and questioned the health effects of multiple pregnancies when motivated by a desire for male offspring.

A gynecologist in the Baghpat region of Uttar Pradesh has caused concern after posting a video from her clinic in which a 22-year-old pregnant Rajasthani woman disclosed that she is expecting her sixth child after five, while her family was still looking for a son.

Dr. Pragya Tomar, a gynecologist at Spandan Hospital in Baraut, posted the video and questioned the health effects of multiple pregnancies when motivated by a desire for male offspring.

When Dr. Tomar inquired about the woman’s age in the video, he discovered that she was 22 and five months pregnant with her sixth child. The mother stated that she is expecting a fifth child in addition to her current five.

When questioned about her marriage, the couple stated that it was a child marriage and that they are from Rajasthan. The woman then revealed to the doctor that she got married when she was about 15 or 16 years old. She then disclosed that she has four children and one son, with the oldest being eight years old.

Dr. Tomar, who was taken aback by the number of pregnancies at such a young age, inquired as to whether they used any form of birth control and why they kept having kids.

In response, the mother said that she consistently gave birth to daughters. She agreed when the doctor inquired if the desire for a son was connected to the repeated pregnancies.

Nevertheless, the family continued to make plans for additional children even after having a son. The husband responded that they desire at least two sons because one is insufficient when Dr. Tomar inquired why they wanted another son. Additionally, he said that having more children will increase future earning potential.

The doctor noted that the woman had complained of health problems, such as lightheadedness and dyspnea, throughout the consultation. She cautioned the pair against endangering the woman’s health and informed them that there should have been a space between pregnancies.

Dr. Tomar also questioned the pressure women are frequently under to continue a family line. “Is it right to endanger someone’s life in the desire for a son?” Dr. Tomar captioned the woman’s post, telling her that she shouldn’t jeopardize her health due to childbirth expectations and advising the couple to think about whether they can support a large family.

Social media users responded to the video, with many criticizing the husband’s comments and voicing concern for the woman’s welfare.

“Why continue a lineage when you are unable to provide food, shelter and clothing for your family?” “That man doesn’t have an ounce of respect or love for her,” one person wrote in response to another.

“She’s only 22 with five children already,” was one of the remarks. They still want more children for a boy, but they don’t give a damn about her health and well-being. It’s depressing to see that this kind of thinking persists.

So far, the video has received around 40 million views.
