OnePlus has officially announced the upcoming launch of the OnePlus 15R, which is set to debut in India on December 17 alongside the new OnePlus Pad Go 2. While details about the device remain scarce, key specifications have emerged, prompting consumers to consider whether they should hold out for the more budget-friendly model or purchase the flagship now.
Specs and Features Comparison
The OnePlus 15 boasts a top-tier Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 processor, currently Qualcomm’s most powerful chipset for flagship devices. In contrast, the OnePlus 15R will be equipped with the Snapdragon 8 Gen 5, a slightly less advanced but still highly capable processor.
Battery capacity is a notable highlight for the 15R, which is confirmed to feature a substantial 7,400mAh battery—larger than the OnePlus 15—and supports 80W fast charging. Rumors suggest that the 15R could be a rebranded version of the Chinese-market OnePlus Ace 6T.
Display-wise, both models are expected to feature a 165Hz refresh rate. The 15R will support multiple IP ratings, including IP66, IP68, IP69, and IP69K, providing comprehensive water and dust resistance.
Camera Capabilities
Design renders indicate that the OnePlus 15R will sport a dual-camera setup, likely comprising a 50MP main wide lens and an 8MP ultra-wide sensor. It is also anticipated to support 4K video recording at up to 120fps.
Meanwhile, the OnePlus 15 will feature a more versatile triple-camera array with a 50MP main, 50MP telephoto, and 50MP ultra-wide lens, powered by the company’s new DetailMax engine—marking a shift from Hasselblad technology.
Should You Wait?
With the OnePlus 15R offering promising specifications at a potentially lower price point, consumers are weighing whether to wait for its release or go ahead and purchase the flagship now. The decision ultimately depends on priorities such as camera versatility, processor power, and budget.
