OnePlus 15R Confirmed as First Phone Powered by Snapdragon 8 Gen 5, Launch Expected Soon
April 27, 2024 — OnePlus has officially announced the upcoming launch of the OnePlus 15R, highlighting it as the world’s first smartphone to feature the latest Snapdragon 8 Gen 5 chipset. The device will come pre-installed with OxygenOS 16 based on Android 16, offering users a seamless and up-to-date experience.
The company has also revealed that the OnePlus 15R will boast multiple IP ratings, including IP66, IP68, IP69, and IP69K, indicating robust water and dust resistance.
Rumors suggest that the OnePlus 15R may be a rebranded version of the recently launched OnePlus Ace 6T in China. If confirmed, the device will feature a 6.83-inch AMOLED display with a resolution of 1.5K and a 165Hz refresh rate, promising smooth visuals. The phone is expected to have a redesigned camera module reminiscent of the OnePlus 15, housing a dual-camera setup with a 50MP Sony IMX906 primary sensor and an 8MP ultrawide lens.
In terms of photography and videography, the OnePlus 15R is confirmed to support 4K video recording at 120fps—a feature previously exclusive to flagship models.
Battery-wise, the device is reported to pack a 7,400mAh capacity, slightly larger than the OnePlus 15, with a focus on longevity. The company states the battery will retain at least 80% of its capacity after four years. It will also support 80W fast wired charging for quick top-ups.
Pricing rumors point to a launch price around Rs 45,000. The OnePlus 15R is scheduled to debut in India alongside the OnePlus Pad Go 2 and will be available for purchase on Amazon in the coming days.
