Sources indicate that the decision was directly linked to the lack of formal clearance from Pakistan’s Foreign Office, which is expected to make a final decision regarding the country’s participation in the tournament on Monday. Until then, the PCB has refrained from making any definitive moves that could be perceived as confirmation of Pakistan’s involvement in the event.
Officially, the PCB has stated that it is following the guidance of the government, emphasizing a cautious approach amid diplomatic considerations that remain unresolved. This has left Pakistan in a holding pattern, with its cricketing plans intertwined with diplomatic developments beyond the PCB’s control.

A PCB source confirmed, “The squad will leave early morning on February 2 for Colombo.”
The PCB has also expressed support for Bangladesh Cricket Board amid security concerns about playing in India, highlighting the complex diplomatic landscape. The tripartite agreement between the BCCI, PCB, and ICC mandates that all India-Pakistan matches in ICC events until 2027 be held at neutral venues. Notably, Pakistan’s entire World Cup schedule, including the final if they qualify, is planned to take place in Sri Lanka.
