As the weekend of January 31 and February 1 approaches, forecasts indicate the possibility of snow in New Jersey, though officials caution that it is too early to confirm.

Bill Goodman, a meteorologist with the National Weather Service (NWS), stated, “It is too early to be definitive” regarding snow forecasts. He explained that current NWS models suggest a potential storm on their radar, but the exact location, timing, and severity of any snowfall cannot be confirmed as of Monday, January 26.

Preliminary trends indicate that any snow could fall Saturday night, January 31, into Sunday, February 1. The Weather Channel’s 10-day forecast currently predicts a 45% chance of morning snow in North Jersey on February 1. Similarly, AccuWeather forecasts a 35% chance of snow in Paramus and surrounding areas on the same day.

Additionally, frigid temperatures are expected throughout the week, which could influence the likelihood and intensity of weekend snow. Temperatures are projected to drop into the single digits, with low temperatures in Teterboro forecasted at 7 degrees, and wind chills could make it feel as cold as -5 degrees.

Recent Snowstorm Impact

North Jersey experienced a significant snowfall on January 25, with many boroughs receiving over a foot of snow—the highest totals since the February 2021 blizzard. In response, Gov. Mikie Sherrill declared a state of emergency the day before the storm, lifting the notice at noon on January 26.

The storm led to widespread disruptions, including closures of schools, courts, state offices, and businesses. Public transportation, including New Jersey Transit, was halted on January 25 but resumed with delays starting at 10 a.m. on January 26.
