The post has generated significant interest amid ongoing speculation about a potential trade agreement between the United States and India. The timing is notable, coming shortly after India unveiled its Union Budget for fiscal year 2027, which includes measures to address challenges posed by Trump’s previous 50% tariffs on Indian exports.
Ambassador Gor’s statement comes at a time when External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar is en route to the U.S., fueling further attention on the evolving India-U.S. relationship. Neither government has issued an official readout of the call.
This marks the first known conversation between Trump and Modi this year. Historically, the two leaders have spoken approximately ten times since last summer.
