New Delhi:
U.S. President Donald Trump announced a significant trade agreement with India today, highlighting his close relationship with Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Trump described Modi as “one of my greatest friends” and emphasized the strengthening of bilateral ties.
In a statement, Trump said, “It was an honour to speak with Prime Minister Narendra Modi of India this morning. He is one of my greatest friends, and a powerful and respected leader of his country.”
The President revealed that the two leaders discussed various issues, including trade and efforts to end conflicts involving Russia and Ukraine.
Under the new deal, the U.S. will reduce its reciprocal tariff from 25% to 18%. Additionally, India has committed to lowering its tariffs and non-tariff
barriers against the United States to zero.
Trump expressed optimism about the future of the relationship, stating, “Our amazing relationship with India will be even stronger going forward.”
He concluded by noting the proactive approach of both leaders: “Prime Minister Modi and I are two people that get things done, something that cannot be said for most.”
