Australia secured their spot in the semi-finals of the Under-19 Men’s World Cup after a comprehensive 22-run victory over West Indies in a thrilling quarter-final clash. Captain Oliver Peake’s century and a pivotal four-wicket haul from pace bowler Charles Lachmund propelled the Aussies into the last four, marking a significant milestone in the tournament.

Put into bat first, Australia posted a formidable total of 314 for 7. Opener Will Malajczuk set the tone with a quickfire 48 off 30 balls, while Nitesh Samuel contributed a valuable 56 off 74 balls, forming key partnerships that laid the foundation for a big score. Peake, who entered the middle order after 11 overs, anchored the innings with a commanding 109 off 117 balls across 166 minutes. He was supported by Alex Lee Young’s solid 45 and Jayden Draper’s quick 29 off 23 balls.

Australia’s innings was marked by resilience and strategic batting, especially as Peake carried the innings for most of the final overs. The West Indies bowlers fought hard, with R’Jai Gittens claiming two important wickets, including Malajczuk. Jakeem Pollard was the most economical West Indies bowler, finishing with 2 for 37.

Chasing a daunting target, West Indies started strongly with an 88-run opening partnership between Zachary Carter and Tanez Francis, followed by a quick 35-run stand between Carter and Jewel Andrew. Carter’s aggressive 64 off 42 balls and Andrew’s 44 off 38 kept the chase alive. Captain Joshua Dorne’s patient 62 from 97 balls added stability to the innings.

However, West Indies fell apart in the final ten overs, losing 5 wickets for just 52 runs while chasing. Needing 83 runs from the last 10 overs with seven wickets remaining, they could not sustain their momentum. Lachmund was the standout bowler for Australia, claiming 4 for 66 in nine overs, while Hayden Schiller and Aryan Sharma took two wickets each. Naden Cooray also contributed crucially, dismissing Carter and conceding only 38 runs from his ten overs.

With this victory, Australia becomes the first team to secure a semi-final berth, advancing further in the tournament as West Indies exit after a valiant effort.
