VERIFY was told by a brand spokesperson that Dr Pepper is not going anywhere, despite viral claims online.
For more than 100 years, Dr Pepper has been a popular soft drink. The soda was originally made in Morrison’s Old Corner Drug Store in Waco, Texas, and was first sold in 1885.
But viral posts circulating on social media have left people panicking about the soda’s future. They claim that Dr Pepper is being discontinued.
WHAT WE FOUND
VERIFY was informed by a brand spokesperson that Dr Pepper will not be discontinued.
“A leading U.S. soft drink, Dr Pepper is over 100 years old with no plans for retirement, and rumors suggesting otherwise are false,” the spokesperson said.
Dr Pepper also debunked the rumor in a post from its official account on X. The post confirmed that the false rumor began with a TikTok video posted earlier in the week.
“No more Dr Pepper would be very upsetting. World crushing. The worst of all time,” the official account wrote. “But you have nothing to worry about. Dr Pepper isn’t going anywhere. These 23 flavors are 4 life.”
This is not the first time a similar rumor about the soda has been circulated online. Snopes reported in 2016 that claims that Coca-Cola bought the rights to Dr Pepper and stopped producing the soft drink were false.
