Meanwhile, Iran’s initial response to the U.S. proposal, which was conveyed through Pakistan, was that it was “unfair and one-sided,” a senior Iranian official told Reuters. The official indicated that a constructive path forward might still be possible if Washington adopts a more realistic approach.
In related developments, Iran’s Parliament is reportedly drafting legislation to formalize fees on ships transiting the Strait of Hormuz, a move seen as a response to ongoing tensions in the region.
In a significant escalation, Israel claimed to have killed Alireza Tangsiri, commander of the Iranian Revolutionary Guards’ navy, whom Israel accused of being “directly responsible” for threatening the Strait since the outbreak of the war. Iran has not yet officially acknowledged Tangsiri’s death.
