According to the UIDAI, till June 14, 2027, Aadhaar holders can continue to update documents associated with their Aadhaar card for free using the myAadhaar portal. The plant was originally scheduled to close in June 2026.

There is some relief if you have been delaying updating your Aadhaar information. People now have an additional year to upload and validate their papers without having to pay a charge thanks to the government’s extension of the free online Aadhaar document update program.

Up until June 14, 2027, Aadhaar holders can update documents associated with their Aadhaar card for free via the myAadhaar portal, according to the Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI). The plant was originally scheduled to close in June 2026.

The move was made in response to positive feedback from Aadhaar users who have been updating their information online, according to an office document released by UIDAI on May 13, 2026.

EXTENDED FREE AADHAAR DOCUMENT UPDATE: WHAT IT MEANS FOR USERS

Only document updates pertaining to proof of identification (PoI) and proof of address (PoA) are eligible for the free service via the myAadhaar portal.

To put it simply, until June 14, 2027, you can update records associated with your Aadhaar profile or obtain supporting documentation for your Aadhaar details online for free.

“It has been decided to extend the facility for one more year, i.e., from June 15, 2026, to June 14, 2027,” stated UIDAI in its letter.

However, you can only use this free service online. A cost of Rs 75 will still be charged if you go to an Aadhaar enrolment or update center to update your documents.

WAYS TO MODIFY AADHAAR DOCUMENTS ONLINE

It only takes a few steps to update Aadhaar papers online using the myAadhaar service.

Users must use their OTP verification and Aadhaar number to log in. They can upload scanned copies of legitimate identity and address proof documents and submit the request online after logging in.

The 14-digit Update Request Number (URN), which aids in tracking the application progress later, should be saved by users when the procedure is finished.

A NEW AADHAAR APP WILL BE RELEASED

Additionally, UIDAI has said that customers will progressively switch to the new Aadhaar app since the current mAadhaar app will shortly retire.

The new app will provide a smarter and more secure experience, including QR-based Aadhaar sharing, improved privacy settings, and simpler access to Aadhaar-related services, according to a UIDAI post on X.

According to the authorities, the new application is intended to simplify and expedite consumers’ access to digital identification services.

AADHAAR UPDATE FEES: WHAT IS AND IS NOT FREE

The cost of changing Aadhaar information varies depending on the kind of update or correction needed.

During some age-based obligatory upgrades, children can receive free biometric updates including fingerprints, iris scans, and photos. Users may need to pay Rs 125 for additional biometric upgrades.

If updated in conjunction with biometric changes, demographic information such as name, gender, date of birth, address, mobile number, or email is free. If not, there is a fine of Rs 75.

Up until June 14, 2027, document updates via the myAadhaar portal are still totally free, thus now is an ideal time for Aadhaar holders to check and update their information if necessary.
