A lively Sunday night at Birch by Romeo Lane, a popular island-style nightclub near the backwaters of Arpora, took a tragic turn following a devastating fire. The event, which started as a typical party in Goa—India’s party capital—saw a large influx of tourists flocking to the venue, with music and dancing filling the night.
However, as the night progressed and guests enjoyed the music, including the hit song “Mehboob oh Mehbooba,” disaster struck when a fire broke out at the nightclub. The blaze resulted in the deaths of 25 individuals, including four tourists, casting a somber shadow over the celebration.
In response to the incident, Chief Minister Pramod Sawant has ordered a comprehensive investigation. Authorities have already made four arrests related to the incident, and three senior officials from the Goa government, including the former Director of Panchayat, have been suspended for their alleged roles in permitting the nightclub to operate in 2023.
