Canon Celebrates 30th Anniversary of PowerShot Series with Limited Edition G7 X Mark III

Canon is commemorating three decades of its popular PowerShot camera line with a special limited edition of its best-selling model, the PowerShot G7 X Mark III.

Since its launch in July 1996 with the PowerShot 600, Canon’s PowerShot series has evolved significantly, now boasting over 200 models available in the United States. The series has come a long way from its original consumer camera, which featured a modest 0.57-megapixel CCD sensor and a fixed 50mm lens.

The new 30th Anniversary Edition of the PowerShot G7 X Mark III closely mirrors the standard version introduced in July 2019. It retains the same 20-megapixel Type 1 stacked CMOS sensor, DIGIC 8 processor, and 4K video recording at 30fps. The iconic 24-100mm f/1.8-2.8 equivalent zoom lens remains unchanged, continuing to set the G7 X Mark III apart in the compact camera market.

What makes this edition unique are its exclusive design features: a sleek graphite finish, a special 30th Anniversary logo on top, and limited-edition packaging. U.S. buyers will also receive a Peak Design Cuff Wrist Strap and a 32GB SD card as part of the package.

Scheduled to launch in April 2026, the limited-edition G7 X Mark III will be available in extremely small quantities. While Canon has not disclosed exact numbers, the company confirmed to PetaPixel that it will be a “very limited” release, with plans underway to manage potential scalper issues—a common challenge with limited-edition cameras.

Priced at $1,299, this special edition commands a $419 premium over the standard black and silver models, which are currently sold out at major retailers like B&H. Despite supply constraints, the G7 X Mark III remains highly sought after, especially among social media influencers and enthusiasts.
