Xiaomi has launched the Xiaomi 17 Max in China, officialising the expansion of its flagship smartphone lineup. The smartphone, which is designated as the battery-focused behemoth of the Xiaomi 17 series, integrates Qualcomm’s most recent Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 chipset, Leica-branded camera hardware, and an 8,000mAh battery to create one of Xiaomi’s most aggressive flagship packages to date.

The device’s unusually large battery capacity and Leica-powered imaging system have been the subject of weeks of leaks and teaser campaigns that have culminated in its launch. Xiaomi had already verified several key specifications prior to the launch, such as the flagship-tier camera configuration and the large 6.9-inch display. The official launch of the device is set to commence on May 25, with a starting price of CNY 4,799 in China, according to launch reports.

Charging features include:

  • 100W wired fast charging
  • 50W wireless charging
  • Reverse wireless charging support

Xiaomi continues to employ a comparatively slim flagship-style design, despite the substantial battery capacity, rather than a rugged battery-focused chassis. The launch also reflects a broader trend in the Chinese smartphone industry, where brands are increasingly incorporating silicon-carbon battery technology to considerably increase battery capacity without significantly increasing the overall thickness of the device.

Leica 200MP Camera Setup

Xiaomi continues its Leica partnership with the camera system. In addition to high-resolution image capture, the camera system also supports advanced computational photography processing and enhanced zoom functionality aimed at flagship-level photography performance.

The Leica collaboration remains one of Xiaomi’s major premium differentiators in the flagship segment. especially as rivals such as Vivo, Oppo, Honor, Samsung, and Apple continue to heavily invest in mobile camera technology.

Final Verdict

The phone appears to be a testament to Xiaomi’s unwavering dedication to a “everything flagship” approach. Rather than concentrating solely on raw processing power or camera performance, the company is integrating a premium display technology, Leica-branded imaging hardware, flagship Qualcomm silicon, and an unusually large 8,000mAh battery into a single device that is obviously targeting power users.

Real-world thermal performance, battery efficiency, and camera consistency will likely determine whether the phone’s substantial battery becomes its defining long-term advantage. However, the Xiaomi 17 Max is already distinguished as one of Xiaomi’s most ambitious flagship smartphone launches in recent years, at least on paper.
