Munich, February 15 — Pakistan Army Chief Field Marshal Asim Munir narrowly escaped detention at the Munich Security Conference after a security officer in Germany’s Munich almost stopped him over his identity verification.
A viral video shows the security personnel requesting Munir to display his ID badge prominently. As he approached the conference entrance, the officer tapped on Munir’s name badge and pointed at the dangling ID card, asking, “Can you turn that around?”
The incident has garnered attention on social media, highlighting the strict security measures at international events, even for high-profile attendees.
Meanwhile, the Pakistan Army chief and his team attended the conference amid protests. A Germany-based Sindhi political organization, Jeay Sindh Muttahida Mahaz (JSMM), has strongly condemned Munir’s participation, calling the invitation “deeply regrettable.” JSMM protested outside the venue, raising concerns about human rights violations in Pakistan.
In a formal statement addressed to the United Nations, the European Union, the German government, and other international bodies, JSMM Chairman Shafi Burfat expressed “deep shock and regret” over Munir’s presence at the global forum.
The Munich Security Conference, regarded as a premier platform for international dialogue on peace and security, brings together world leaders, diplomats, and security experts annually. This year’s event continues to draw significant attention amidst geopolitical tensions and debates over participants’ inclusion.
