Jerusalem/Washington: Israel is preparing for the possibility of joining potential US military action against Iran as tensions between Washington and Tehran escalate sharply, according to multiple officials cited by Reuters.

Israeli officials warned that the standoff has reached a critical juncture, with diplomatic efforts showing little progress. Two officials described the differences between the two sides as “unbridgeable,” cautioning that the situation could “spin out of control and destabilise the Middle East.” While no final decision has been taken, Israel is reportedly making contingency plans for possible joint operations with the United States if negotiations collapse.

Military Build-Up Intensifies

Satellite imagery indicates a significant increase in American military assets at Muwaffaq Salti Air Base in Jordan, now viewed as a potential hub for strike planning. More than 60 attack aircraft — nearly triple the usual number — have been spotted at the base, along with drones, helicopters and advanced fighter jets. Flight tracking data shows at least 68 cargo aircraft have landed at the facility in recent days, and additional air defence systems have been deployed amid concerns over potential Iranian missile retaliation.

US President Donald Trump has publicly stated that military action remains under consideration. “I guess I can say I am considering that,” Trump said when asked about possible limited strikes, adding that Iran “better negotiate a fair deal.” He suggested Tehran has between 10 and 15 days to reach an agreement.

Iran Signals Readiness for Talks and Conflict

Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi said Tehran remains open to negotiations but is equally prepared for confrontation. “We are prepared for negotiation as much as we are prepared for war,” he stated, adding that a draft proposal could soon be presented to Washington. However, he rejected assertions that Iran had agreed to fully halt uranium enrichment, contradicting US statements.

Regional Concerns Mount

Across the Gulf, oil-producing nations are closely monitoring developments, fearing that any military clash could rapidly escalate and disrupt energy markets. With US warships, aircraft carriers and fighter jets deployed in the region, and Iran conducting naval exercises near the Strait of Hormuz, analysts say the Middle East appears closer to open conflict than at any time in recent years.

The coming days are expected to be critical as diplomatic channels remain active but increasingly strained.
