Xiaomi has launched the Xiaomi 17 Max in China, officialising the expansion of its flagship smartphone lineup. The smartphone, which is designated as the battery-focused behemoth of the Xiaomi 17 series, integrates Qualcomm’s most recent Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 chipset, Leica-branded camera hardware, and an 8,000mAh battery to create one of Xiaomi’s most aggressive flagship packages to date.

The device’s unusually large battery capacity and Leica-powered imaging system have been the subject of weeks of leaks and teaser campaigns that have culminated in its launch. Xiaomi had already verified several key specifications prior to the launch, such as the flagship-tier camera configuration and the large 6.9-inch display. The official launch of the device is set to commence on May 25, with a starting price of CNY 4,799 in China, according to launch reports.

Xiaomi 17 Max: Full Features and Specifications

Display and Design

The Xiaomi 17 Max features:

  • 6.9-inch LTPO AMOLED display
  • 1.5K resolution
  • 120Hz adaptive refresh rate
  • Up to 3500 nits peak brightness
  • Slim-bezel design
  • IP68 dust and water resistance

The smartphone is available in multiple color options, including:

  • Black
  • White
  • Blue
  • Titanium Silver

Xiaomi has also redesigned the rear camera island compared to previous-generation flagship models.

Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 Powers the Device

Under the hood, the Xiaomi 17 Max is powered by Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 chipset based on TSMC’s advanced 3nm architecture.

The device is paired with:

  • Up to 16GB LPDDR5X RAM
  • Up to 512GB UFS 4.1 storage
  • Xiaomi IceLoop cooling system

The upgraded cooling system is designed to improve thermal management during:

  • Gaming
  • Multitasking
  • Extended camera usage
  • AI-heavy workloads

8,000mAh Battery

The headline feature of the phone is its massive 8,000mAh silicon-carbon battery, making it one of the largest batteries currently available in a flagship smartphone.

Charging features include:

  • 100W wired fast charging
  • 50W wireless charging
  • Reverse wireless charging support

Xiaomi continues to employ a comparatively slim flagship-style design, despite the substantial battery capacity, rather than a rugged battery-focused chassis. The launch also reflects a broader trend in the Chinese smartphone industry, where brands are increasingly incorporating silicon-carbon battery technology to considerably increase battery capacity without significantly increasing the overall thickness of the device.

Leica 200MP Camera Setup

Xiaomi continues its Leica partnership with the camera system. In addition to high-resolution image capture, the camera system also supports advanced computational photography processing and enhanced zoom functionality aimed at flagship-level photography performance.

The rear camera setup includes:

  • 200MP Leica primary camera
  • 50MP ultra-wide sensor
  • 50MP periscope telephoto camera

Camera features include:

  • AI scene optimization
  • Advanced night photography
  • 8K video recording
  • Enhanced portrait processing
  • High-resolution zoom support

The Leica collaboration remains one of Xiaomi’s major premium differentiators in the flagship segment. especially as rivals such as Vivo, Oppo, Honor, Samsung, and Apple continue to heavily invest in mobile camera technology.

Software and Connectivity

The phone ships with:

  • HyperOS 3
  • Android 16

Connectivity features include:

  • Wi-Fi 7
  • Bluetooth 5.4
  • NFC
  • USB Type-C
  • Dual stereo speakers
  • In-display fingerprint scanner

The device also includes several AI-powered software features integrated throughout HyperOS 3.

Xiaomi 17 Max Price and Availability

It starts at CNY 4,799 for the base variant. The smartphone will officially go on sale in China starting May 25, 2026. Xiaomi has not yet confirmed:

  • India launch details
  • global availability
  • or regional pricing information

Key Differences: Xiaomi 17 Max vs Xiaomi 17 Ultra

Xiaomi 17 Max Xiaomi 17 Ultra
Battery 8,000mAh 6,800mAh
Main Camera 200MP Leica 50MP 1-inch Leica
Telephoto 50MP Periscope 200MP Periscope
Display 6.9-inch LTPO AMOLED 6.8-inch AMOLED
Charging 100W + 50W wireless 100W wired
Chipset Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5

Final Verdict

The phone appears to be a testament to Xiaomi’s unwavering dedication to a “everything flagship” approach. Rather than concentrating solely on raw processing power or camera performance, the company is integrating a premium display technology, Leica-branded imaging hardware, flagship Qualcomm silicon, and an unusually large 8,000mAh battery into a single device that is obviously targeting power users.

Real-world thermal performance, battery efficiency, and camera consistency will likely determine whether the phone’s substantial battery becomes its defining long-term advantage. However, the Xiaomi 17 Max is already distinguished as one of Xiaomi’s most ambitious flagship smartphone launches in recent years, at least on paper.
