New Delhi: In a scene that has left many bewildered, the World Book Fair, held at Pragati Maidan, descended into chaos yesterday, with thousands of book enthusiasts and collectors rushing to grab as many titles as possible.

Eyewitnesses described the scene as “absolute pandemonium” with people scrambling to get their hands on a large number of books, with some even resorting to picking up multiple copies of the same title. Social media was flooded with viral videos and images of the mayhem, with many users using the hashtag #DelhiBookRush.

“It was like a bookstore apocalypse out there,” said one attendee. “Everyone was grabbing books, and it was getting harder and harder to breathe. I just wanted to get my favorite authors, but it was like a stampede.”

The event, which has been a annual fixture in the city, is typically a showcase for new releases and a platform for authors to connect with readers. However, it seems that the recent trend of “voracious” readers and book collectors has led to a change in the dynamics of the event.

“It’s not just about reading anymore,” said a book blogger. “It’s about having the perfect Instagram shot, or getting your hands on a rare edition. The World Book Fair has turned into a commodity-driven event, and it’s getting out of hand.”

The Delhi Police have tightened security at the venue, and efforts are being made to restore order. However, for many, the experience was a stark reminder of the changing times.

“It’s not just about the books anymore,” said a disappointed attendee. “It’s about the rush, the thrill of the chase. And that’s a sad state of affairs.”
