The February full moon, known as the Snow Moon, is lighting up the night sky with a powerful presence that’s stirring deep emotions and bold insights. Rising on the evening of February 1, 2026, this lunar event shines brightly in the sign of Leo, bringing themes of courage, authenticity, and emotional confrontation to the forefront.
Historically called the Hungry Moon by the Cree, the Bear Moon by the Ojibwe, and other names reflecting scarcity and endurance, this moon has long symbolized resilience amid harsh winter conditions. This year, however, its energy feels more visceral and palpable, driven by Leo’s fiery fixed energy clashing with winter’s icy stillness.
Astrologers note that the Moon’s opposition to Mars in Aquarius adds a sharp edge to the lunar influence, prompting individuals to face truths they might have been avoiding. The full moon’s themes include emotional clarity, community, and personal authenticity—urging people to confront internal and external challenges with bravery.
The full moon peaks at 5:09 p.m. ET on February 1 and remains visible through February 2, offering a visual reminder of the lunar power at work. It signals a period of transformation, where what appears as conflict or distance may actually reveal opportunities for growth and realignment.
For some signs, the effects are particularly pronounced. Taurus may notice shifts in relationships, prompting a redefinition of attachments. Scorpio could experience changes in career or purpose, while Aquarius faces a reevaluation of intimacy and long-term habits. Meanwhile, Leo is encouraged to embrace vulnerability, shedding roles that no longer serve their authentic self.
Astrologers emphasize that this moon does not promote recklessness but instead inspires courage—an invitation to recognize when old patterns no longer fit and to take steps toward renewal. It marks the culmination of a cycle that began with the Leo New Moon last August, signaling a period of personal and collective evolution.
The Snow Moon also highlights the importance of action over emotion. It’s a catalyst for turning feelings into strategic moves, pushing individuals to confront what’s been hidden and to harness that awareness for positive change.
Overall, this lunar event is a reminder that beneath the quiet exterior of winter lies a stirring of life that demands attention. Whether it’s unveiling vulnerabilities or igniting new ambitions, the Snow Moon encourages boldness tempered with caution, illuminating pathways toward growth and renewal in the midst of the season’s coldest days.
