Bollywood star Priyanka Chopra is making a highly anticipated comeback to Indian cinema with SS Rajamouli’s upcoming film, Varanasi. The actress, who has been focusing on Hollywood projects, expressed her excitement about returning to the Indian film industry after nearly six years. In a recent interview with ScreenRant, Priyanka revealed her enthusiasm for the project, sharing, “My favorite part was getting to dance again. I haven’t done that in any of my Hollywood productions. I was really excited to be able to do that.”

Varanasi marks Priyanka’s first Indian project post-hiatus and is generating buzz not only for its stellar cast but also for her return to Bollywood’s big screen. The film’s official title was unveiled at the Globetrotter event in Hyderabad on November 15, 2024, with a scheduled release date of April 7, 2027.

Franchise Rumors and Priyanka’s Potential Return to Don 3

Alongside her upcoming project, speculation continues around Priyanka Chopra’s involvement in popular Bollywood franchises. Fans are eager to see her reprise her role as Roma in Don 3, the highly awaited third installment of the Don series. Reports suggest that Farhan Akhtar, the franchise’s director, has approached Shah Rukh Khan to reprise his iconic role as Don, with indications that Khan has given a tentative nod.

Regarding Priyanka’s potential return, sources indicate that negotiations are ongoing, especially since she previously played Roma opposite Shah Rukh Khan in Don (2006) and Don 2 (2011). However, the project has faced delays due to various factors, including Ranveer Singh’s casting as the new Don, which sparked online trolling and controversy. Singh’s portrayal faced criticism from fans loyal to the original stars, leading to the project’s postponement.

Additionally, Singh’s recent reassessment of his slate, along with other production delays—including Kiara Advani’s pregnancy—have contributed to the project’s uncertain timeline. Farhan Akhtar has also been busy with his acting commitments, notably in the war film 120 Bahadur, which was released recently. There is speculation that Priyanka Chopra may still re-enter the franchise, sources say, though nothing has been officially confirmed.

Priyanka’s Hollywood and Indian Cinema Cross-Over

Priyanka’s return to Indian cinema with Varanasi is a significant milestone, especially as she discusses her experiences dancing on set—something she hadn’t done in Hollywood productions. Her collaboration with director SS Rajamouli, known for blockbuster hits, is seen as a major highlight of her career comeback.

As fans await more details, the industry watches closely for updates on Don 3, with hopes high for Priyanka Chopra’s return to one of Bollywood’s most beloved franchises.
