Bollywood star Ranveer Singh has reportedly received a threatening message via WhatsApp from unidentified sources, prompting increased security measures around his residence. The actor approached the police after receiving a voice note containing the threat.
The threat comes amid heightened tensions following a recent shooting incident outside filmmaker Rohit Shetty’s residence in Juhu, Mumbai. Authorities suspect the Lawrence Bishnoi gang may be involved in threatening Singh, possibly for extortion purposes. The Mumbai Police’s crime branch has launched an investigation into the matter, and efforts are underway to identify and apprehend those responsible.
In response to the threat, security personnel, including private guards, have been deployed at Singh’s housing society in Central Mumbai. The society’s managing committee expressed concern over the presence of armed guards in common areas such as lobbies, gyms, and children’s play zones, citing safety and comfort issues for residents. They submitted a letter to police requesting a review of security arrangements.
This incident follows recent violence targeting prominent figures in the city. Just days before Singh’s threat, five rounds of gunfire were fired at Rohit Shetty’s residence, with one of the shooters allegedly linked to the Lawrence Bishnoi gang. Shubham Lonkar, a member of the gang, claimed responsibility for the firing, which led to the arrest of five individuals involved.
Law enforcement agencies are intensifying efforts to prevent further violence and protect high-profile personalities. The police are also analyzing the voice note received by Singh to gather clues and trace the source of the threat. The incident underscores the ongoing security challenges faced by Bollywood celebrities and city officials’ commitment to ensuring their safety amid growing threats and criminal activities targeting the entertainment industry.
