Amid rising tensions, the United States has significantly bolstered its military presence in the Middle East, raising questions about potential plans for an attack on Iran. Over the past 24 hours, more than 50 US fighter jets—including F-35s, F-22s, and F-16s—have been deployed to the region, according to Axios. This military buildup comes as Iran announced plans to close part of the Strait of Hormuz temporarily during military drills, a strategic choke point for global oil exports.

The US military movement coincides with ongoing negotiations between Washington and Tehran. Iranian officials indicated progress in nuclear talks held in Geneva on Tuesday, describing the discussions as more “constructive” than previous rounds. Iranian Foreign Minister Seyed Abbas Araghchi revealed that both sides had agreed on guiding principles for a potential nuclear deal, though he warned that the next phase would be more complex and detailed.

Despite the diplomatic developments, US officials remain cautious, suggesting that tensions could escalate into military conflict. The US has already moved an aircraft carrier, USS Abraham Lincoln, to the Arabian Sea, along with other aircraft and drones operating in the region. Satellite imagery shows additional US naval assets, including a guided-missile destroyer and surveillance drones, positioning themselves near Iran.

Iran has warned it might fully close the Strait of Hormuz if tensions escalate further, threatening to block vital energy routes. While Tehran has threatened to do so before, it has yet to implement such a move.

The ongoing negotiations aim to reach an agreement that could lift extensive sanctions on Iran’s economy in exchange for restrictions on its nuclear program. However, officials caution that the road ahead remains challenging, with the possibility of military action still looming as both sides negotiate the future of Iran’s nuclear ambitions.
