New Delhi: WhatsApp has begun rolling out a new feature called Group Message History, allowing users to share recent conversations with newly added members, in what parent company Meta describes as one of its most requested updates.
Easier Catch-Up for New Members
The new feature is designed to help participants quickly understand ongoing discussions when they join a group chat. When adding a new member, existing participants will now have the option to share between 25 and 100 previous messages to provide context.
Meta clarified that message history sharing will not happen automatically. Instead, group members must choose whether to share recent chats, giving them full control over what information is visible to new participants.
Improves Convenience While Protecting Privacy
According to the company, the update removes the need for users to rely on screenshots or manually forwarding messages to bring new members up to speed. At the same time, the optional nature of the feature ensures privacy safeguards remain in place.
Gradual Global Rollout Underway
WhatsApp said the Group Message History feature is being rolled out gradually to users worldwide. The update is expected to enhance group communication efficiency, particularly in large or active chats where new members often need time to catch up on discussions.
The feature reflects WhatsApp’s continued focus on improving user experience and responding to feedback from its global user base.
