The upcoming iPhone 18 series is expected to be unveiled at Apple’s September event, with the spotlight on the iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max. According to a recent report, both models are set to introduce several notable upgrades, including a redesigned Dynamic Island featuring a smaller notch.

Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman reports that Apple plans to make the Dynamic Island more compact on the iPhone 18 Pro series. The new design is anticipated to be smaller than the current models—reducing from approximately 20.7mm on the iPhone 17 Pro to around 13.49mm on the iPhone 18 Pro and Pro Max, representing a roughly 35% reduction.

The Dynamic Island, first introduced with the iPhone 14 Pro series in September 2022, replaced the traditional wide notch with a centered pill-shaped cutout at the top of the display. It houses Face ID sensors and the selfie camera while supporting features like Live Activities for alerts, notifications, and real-time tracking. Previous iterations have seen incremental size reductions, but the upcoming change could be more significant.

Speculation suggests that Apple might incorporate under-display infrared sensors in the new series, potentially for biometric authentication. This development could lead to the elimination or further reduction of the notch, with some reports indicating that Face ID technology may remain beneath the display, though not all components will be hidden behind a transparent area.

These anticipated design enhancements are believed to be part of Apple’s longer-term plan, possibly extending through 2026 or 2027, as the company continues to refine its display and biometric technology.

As the launch date approaches, fans and industry experts await official confirmation, but the reports suggest that the iPhone 18 Pro models could mark a significant step forward in both aesthetics and functionality.
