Modi Pays Tribute to Holocaust Victims at Yad Vashem Memorial During Israel Visit

Prime Minister Narendra Modi paid tribute to Holocaust victims during a solemn visit to Yad Vashem, Israel’s official memorial dedicated to the victims of World War II, as part of his ongoing diplomatic trip to the country.

Modi, accompanied by Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, attended a ceremony at the Hall of Remembrance in Jerusalem. The two leaders observed a moment of silence while the traditional Kaddish prayer was recited in memory of the six million Jews who lost their lives during the Holocaust. The ceremony emphasised remembrance, respect, and a shared commitment to peace and humanity.

Established in 1953, Yad Vashem serves as Israel’s central institution for Holocaust remembrance. The memorial includes the Holocaust History Museum, the Hall of Names, and the Children’s Memorial, and also honours the “Righteous Among the Nations,” non-Jews who risked their lives to save Jewish people during the genocide. The institution also promotes education and research to preserve the stories of victims and survivors.

Modi Explores Technology Cooperation During Visit

During his visit to Jerusalem, Modi also toured a technology exhibition showcasing Israel’s advancements in artificial intelligence, quantum technology, healthcare, and innovation. He encouraged Israeli companies to expand investments in India and collaborate with Indian talent to strengthen bilateral cooperation.

Knesset Honours Modi With Highest Parliamentary Award

Earlier, Israel’s parliament, the Knesset, conferred its highest honour, the Speaker of the Knesset Medal, on Modi in recognition of his leadership in strengthening India–Israel relations. He received a standing ovation after addressing lawmakers and highlighting the deep historical and cultural ties between the two nations.

In his speech, Modi noted that connections between India and Israel date back over 2,000 years, citing references in ancient Jewish texts and historical trade links. He also emphasised India’s long-standing record of providing a safe and welcoming environment for Jewish communities.

The visit underscores the growing strategic partnership between India and Israel, with both nations continuing to expand cooperation in technology, diplomacy, and cultural exchange.
