One of the standout reveals is Lenovo’s Legion Go Fold, a concept foldable gaming handheld that’s generating plenty of excitement. Featuring a flexible display that can expand to 11.6 inches or fold into a compact 7.7-inch form, the device boasts detachable controllers and multiple mounting options allowing users to switch between landscape and portrait modes. It can also transform into a laptop, with a strip of pogo pins enabling a wireless keyboard connection. The right gamepad doubles as a mouse, complete with a scroll wheel and a tiny OLED display that can show widgets or act as a touchpad.
While Lenovo emphasizes that the Legion Go Fold remains a concept, its innovative design hints at a future where portable gaming devices could become more versatile. If it ever hits the market, it’s expected to come at a premium price.
Lenovo’s Modular AI PC and Other Hardware Refreshes
In addition to the foldable gaming device, Lenovo announced its Modular AI PC—a laptop with two screens and a detachable keyboard, allowing flexible configuration based on user needs. Lenovo’s latest gaming tablet, the Legion Tab Gen 5, now features a Snapdragon 8 Gen 5 chip, 16GB of RAM, up to 512GB storage, and a 9,000mAh battery for extended gaming sessions. It launches in May for $849. A new 15-inch Legion 7a Gen 11 gaming laptop will follow in July, starting at $2,299.
On the AI front, Lenovo showcased concepts like the AI Workmate, a desktop robot with a face and a projector-enabled head, and the AI Work Companion, a smart clock and task organizer designed to synchronize and manage daily routines.
Honor’s Robot Phone and Other Innovations
Honor made waves with its highly anticipated Robot Phone—a device featuring a mobile camera mounted on a 4-degrees-of-freedom gimbal, capable of moving and gesture recognition. The camera, which resembles a tiny robot head, can bob along to music and demonstrate gesture controls like nodding or tilting. The primary sensor boasts a 200-megapixel resolution, with three-axis stabilization and AI-based modes such as Super Steady Video. In addition, Honor introduced its Magic V6 foldable smartphone, touted as the thinnest in its category at just 8.75mm folded. The device’s design varies slightly across colors, with the international version equipped with a 6,660mAh battery.
Honor also announced the MagicPad 4, an ultra-thin Android tablet measuring just 4.8mm thick, featuring a 12.3-inch OLED display, 16GB RAM, up to 512GB storage, and a 10,100mAh battery. It supports 66W fast charging and runs MagicOS 10. Pricing details remain under wraps.
Xiaomi’s Flagship 17 Ultra and Collaborations
Kicking off MWC’s device reveals, Xiaomi announced the global launch of its flagship 17 Ultra smartphone, initially launched in China in December. The device boasts a Leica partnership, with a 1-inch 50MP main sensor, a 200MP telephoto, and a 50MP ultrawide camera, complemented by a manual zoom ring. The 6.9-inch OLED display peaks at 3,500 nits brightness, powered by a 6,000mAh battery, retailing at approximately £1,299 ($1,750).
Leica also unveiled a new phone made in partnership with Xiaomi, which closely resembles the 17 Ultra but is a distinct model.
