Bollywood superstar Salman Khan has revealed a significant update on his upcoming war film, officially renaming it to Maatrubhumi: May War Rest in Peace. The project, previously titled Battle of Galwan, signifies a shift in tone and messaging, reflecting a more nuanced narrative.

Directed by Apoorva Lakhia, the film is inspired by the 2020 India-China military clash in the Galwan Valley. Salman Khan is set to portray the late Colonel Bikumalla Santosh Babu. Shooting commenced in Ladakh in September 2025 and was nearing completion by December that year.

However, the production is currently undergoing substantial changes. According to reports from Mid-Day, the team has been reshooting parts of the film in Mumbai since February 2026, with plans for nearly 40 more days of filming. The reshoots aim to introduce new sequences to reshape the film’s narrative.

A notable addition to the project is a Chinese-language song, composed by Himesh Reshammiya. The song, once finalized and recorded, will be filmed featuring Salman Khan.

Industry insiders suggest that these revisions are driven by shifting geopolitical contexts. With India and China gradually easing tensions, the filmmakers have chosen to focus more on themes of peace, harmony, and the human cost of war, moving away from a purely conflict-centric story. The rebranding and narrative overhaul aim to reflect this updated perspective.
