Oracle Corporation has reportedly laid off approximately 12,000 employees in India as part of a significant global restructuring effort, with overall job cuts estimated to reach as high as 30,000 worldwide. The layoffs, which impact nearly 40% of Oracle’s Indian workforce of around 30,000 employees, come amid a broader overhaul of the company’s global operations.
Sources indicate that affected employees in India received termination notices via email early on March 31, 2026, with system access revoked shortly thereafter. The layoffs are part of a larger workforce reduction affecting roughly 18% of Oracle’s global staff, with a total of up to 30,000 job cuts reported.
Analysts attribute the layoffs to Oracle’s strategic pivot towards artificial intelligence infrastructure and the need to address over $108 billion in debt. The company is reallocating billions of dollars into expanding AI data centers and acquiring specialized chips to fuel its AI ambitions.
Employees in India have been offered severance packages comprising 15 days’ salary for each year of service plus one month’s notice pay. The mass layoffs coincide with similar workforce reductions announced earlier this year at other technology giants such as Dell and Nokia.
