The JEE Main 2026 Session 2, Shift 1 examination was held today from 9 AM to 12 PM in online mode, featuring 75 questions across Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics, with a total of 300 marks.

According to the National Academic Director of Engineering at Aakash Educational Services Limited, the overall difficulty level of the paper was moderate to difficult, with Mathematics identified as the most challenging section. Physics questions ranged from easy to moderate, while Chemistry was classified as moderate to difficult, mainly due to its calculation-heavy questions. Both the Mathematics and Chemistry sections proved time-consuming, making it challenging for students to complete the exam within the three-hour timeframe.

The expert also noted that the paper was well-balanced in terms of question distribution and chapter coverage.

Section-wise Breakdown:

Physics:
The Physics section was relatively easier, covering most major chapters. Electromagnetism received significant emphasis, while Optics and Waves had fewer questions. Mechanics had an average number of questions. Although some questions were time-consuming, the overall section was manageable, with topics like Electromagnetic Waves, Thermodynamics, and Modern Physics being adequately represented.

Chemistry:
Chemistry posed a moderate difficulty level, with questions fairly evenly distributed across Organic, Inorganic, and Physical Chemistry. Inorganic Chemistry had slightly higher weightage, whereas Organic Chemistry featured fewer questions. While most questions were straightforward, some calculation-intensive problems required additional time, affecting overall time management during the exam.
