Davos, January 26 — Accenture CEO Julie Sweet has emphasized the importance of AI literacy among business leaders, stating that within three years, companies should be able to demonstrate how AI has transformed their services and insights.

Speaking during a Bloomberg Television interview at the World Economic Forum in Davos, Sweet underscored that effective leadership in AI begins with a deep understanding of the technology itself. She warned that without this understanding, leaders will struggle to guide their organizations through the significant changes AI entails.

Sweet highlighted the critical role of leader-led learning, advocating for top executives to first immerse themselves in AI tools and concepts before cascading knowledge throughout their organizations. She stressed that this approach is essential for unlocking new possibilities and ensuring a successful AI-driven transformation.

The CEO also pointed out that regulators in heavily regulated industries must grasp AI’s potential; otherwise, their ability to scale and succeed could be hindered. She called on governments, non-profits, and corporations to prioritize leader-led AI education and develop strategies to upskill their workforces.

Addressing a question about practical implementation, Sweet shared a real-world example: a client’s success depended on their 300 leaders actively engaging with AI tools firsthand. “That’s the first step,” she explained, referencing how her own company initially focused training efforts on its top 50 leaders post-November 2022. “Once leaders understand AI, it unlocks the full potential of what it can do, transforming everything.”

Sweet concluded by emphasizing that AI mastery among leaders is vital for organizations to remain competitive and innovative in the evolving digital landscape.
