CBSE issues updated rules on three-language policy The new instructions announced would give some respite to the kids studying for their board examinations since the students of the present batch of Class 10 will not be required to follow the updated three-language policy.
CBSE Academics Director Praggya M Singh stated, “The Board has issued revised guidelines which will not require the present Class 10 batch to follow the new three-language policy.

The official notification adds, “It is reiterated that there will be no change for students who are in Class X during 2026-27 and they will continue with the old system of two languages. This batch is not needed to learn any third language.

One-time relaxation has also been provided by the Board to the students now studying in Class 9. Under the changed standards, these kids will be entitled to continue studying two foreign languages and one Indian language.
‘Students of the present batches studying in Class 7, 8 and 9 would not be obliged to give Board examination in third language when they go to Class 10,’ the Board had said in the updated rules.
The clarification comes weeks after the CBSE in May published a circular indicating that students taking admission to Class IX from July 1 will be expected to study three languages, of which two should be Indian languages, as per the National Curriculum Framework (NCF).

CBSE publishes 99.7% of re-evaluated results following verification, remaining results to be announced soon

Before the current clarification, CBSE had said students studying in Classes 7, 8 and 9 who had opted for two foreign languages under the present three-language policy would be permitted to continue with the same subject combination till Class 10.

On May 27, a panel including Chief Justice of India Surya Kant decided to review a bundle of petitions challenging CBSE’s three-language policy.

The bench asked if schools had enough literature, teachers and infrastructure, noting that there seemed to be “issues of hardship, inconvenience and logistical support” that needed to be addressed immediately.

CBSE says 3-language formula: Classes 7-9 can continue with present mix

The main appeal filed by 19 parents and teachers from Delhi, Gurugram, Noida and Chennai contends that the May 15 circular was an unexpected change of stance by CBSE and upset school and family academic preparation already underway. The case will be taken up in the second week of July.
