Several regions across Jammu and Kashmir experienced tremors on Friday evening following a 5.9 magnitude earthquake, causing brief panic among residents. The quake struck the valley at approximately 9:46 pm, lasting only a few seconds but leaving a significant impact.
Residents across multiple areas reported ground shaking and a sense of fear. A resident from Delhi recounted, “When the earthquake struck, I was sitting in the room, and I felt the bed shaking. When I looked up, the fan was shaking too. When I stepped outside, I saw that others around me were also scared.”
Similarly, Baldev Chand, a resident of Chandigarh living on the second floor, described feeling a strong jolt that lasted several seconds, according to PTI reports.
The tremors were also felt in Delhi-NCR, Punjab, and neighboring regions. The earthquake’s epicenter was located near Darawan at coordinates 36.52°N and 71.01°E, with a depth of 175 kilometers. Authorities continue to monitor the situation as residents remain on alert.
