Abu Dhabi: Etihad Airways has officially announced its Airbus A380 flight schedule for 2026, confirming the continuation of its operations with the iconic double-decker aircraft. Among the key developments is the reactivation of its eighth A380 frame, with a ninth aircraft still in storage and the tenth—its only other A380—being retired and scrapped.
A380 Fleet Details
All of Etihad’s A380s feature a uniform configuration, accommodating 486 passengers across multiple cabins. The aircraft include two The Residence suites (multi-room offerings), nine first-class apartments with a 2-2 layout, 70 business class seats arranged in a 1-2-1 configuration, and 405 economy seats set in a 3-4-3 layout with 31-32 inch pitch.
2026 Route Network
While early-year planning remains tentative—subject to change as schedules are finalized—Etihad’s provisional flight plans reveal five routes operating the A380 this year. Notably, the airline will deploy the superjumbo to Tokyo Narita for the first time on July 17, replacing the previous A350-1000 service. The daily A380 flights to Tokyo will operate through November, with potential continuation into summer 2027 if performance remains strong.
In addition, Etihad’s key routes with A380 services in 2026 include:
- London Heathrow: Increased to 19 weekly departures from 12 last year, reflecting a 3% growth.
- Paris Charles de Gaulle: Daily flights.
- Singapore: Daily flights, first introduced in February 2025.
- Toronto: Daily flights, introduced in June 2025, replacing the New York JFK route.
Expanding A380 Operations from Abu Dhabi
Etihad plans to operate up to seven daily A380 flights from Abu Dhabi starting June 17, coinciding with the aircraft’s debut to Japan. This marks a significant resurgence, as such frequency last occurred in early 2020. These flights will serve key routes including London Heathrow, Paris CDG, Singapore, and Toronto.
The airline remains the only carrier from the UAE to schedule double-decker flights from Abu Dhabi, which has historically ranked as the 14th most-served airport globally for superjumbo traffic since Singapore Airlines’ first A380 flight in 2007.
Fleet Utilization and Future Outlook
Across its fleet, the A380 will be the second most-utilized aircraft from Abu Dhabi in 2026, with approximately 2,105 departures planned. This compares to higher activity levels on Boeing 787-9 and 787-10 aircraft, and the Airbus A350-1000. The least-used aircraft will be the A330-200, with just 105 departures, as it is scheduled to be phased out after March.
The return to seven or more daily A380 departures from Abu Dhabi signals a notable revival for the aircraft type, which has seen fluctuating demand since the pandemic.
Note: These plans are based on current schedules as of January 21 and are subject to change as airlines finalize their routes and operations for the year.
