January 2026 – In a surprising development, users worldwide are reporting a peculiar glitch involving the latest Google Play system update, which appears to revert their devices from the January 2026 patch back to an older November 2025 version.

The issue primarily affects Google Pixel devices, though reports indicate that users with other Android brands, such as OnePlus, are also impacted. Users received notifications prompting them to update, only to find their devices downgraded to an earlier version instead of progressing to the expected January 2026 update.

This anomaly has sparked confusion among Android users and experts alike. Several Pixel owners shared their experiences, noting that after installing what was labeled as the January 2026 Google Play System Update, their devices reverted to the November 2025 release. Even more intriguing, when users attempted to uninstall the November 2025 update, their devices returned to the January 2026 version, suggesting a possible mislabeling of the update.

The glitch appears to stem from a possible mislabeling by Google, with the current theory being that the supposed February 2026 update may have been incorrectly named as November 2025. Google has not yet issued an official statement, but tech analysts are monitoring the situation closely.

Google’s recent efforts to simplify the uninstallation of Google Play System Updates seem to have played a role in uncovering this issue. When some users uninstalled the November 2025 update, their devices reverted back to the January 2026 version.

For now, experts advise users to remain on the current update—believed to be the mislabeled November 2025 version—until Google releases a formal fix. There are no reports of significant bugs or issues after installing this update, and Google is expected to address the glitch through upcoming updates.

The company has been contacted for further clarification and will provide updates as they become available. Users are encouraged to ensure their devices are up-to-date and to avoid manually altering system updates until more information is provided.
