Trouble looms for Yash’s highly anticipated film Toxic: A Fairytale for Grown Ups after the Karnataka State Commission for Women (KSCW) received a complaint over its teaser, which features provocative scenes involving the actor. The teaser, released on Yash’s birthday, January 8, showcased Yash in a passionate car scene with a lady, followed by intense action sequences. While initial reactions did not spark controversy, recent developments have brought the teaser under scrutiny.
The complaint was filed by the women’s wing of the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), which has expressed strong objections to the content. Leaders from the party met with the KSCW and demanded action, including the removal of the teaser from social media platforms. The party has also called for the film’s certification body, the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC), to take appropriate measures.
In a letter addressed to the CBFC, AAP state secretary Usha Mohan stated that the “obscene and explicit content” in the teaser harms social wellbeing, particularly affecting women and children. She alleged that the scenes, released without age restrictions, degrade women’s dignity and insult Kannada culture. The party emphasized the negative societal impact, especially on minors, and urged authorities to ban the teaser and ensure it is taken down from all online platforms.
The petition further requested the CBFC to verify the content and take necessary action according to established rules, promising to submit a report on the matter.
Toxic: A Fairytale for Grown Ups, directed by Geethu Mohandas, features a star-studded cast including Rukmini Vasanth, Nayanthara, Kiara Advani, Tara Sutaria, Huma Qureshi, Akshay Oberoi, and Sudev Nair. The film, which co-wrote with Yash, is set to release on March 19, clashing with Ranveer Singh’s Dhurandhar 2.
While fans initially praised the teaser’s high-octane action, critics pointed out its focus on male gaze and objectification. The controversy over its content now raises questions about the film’s portrayal and societal impact, with calls for more responsible content regulation.
