Mumbai, January 13 — In preparation for the upcoming Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) elections, the civic body has announced a comprehensive two-day cleanliness campaign across all 10,231 polling stations. Over 20,000 sanitation workers, including sweepers and Pink Army teams, will be deployed to ensure hygiene and voter comfort on voting and counting days.

The initiative includes the installation of segregated waste bins, mobile toilets, dust control measures such as water sprinkling and misting machines, and dedicated Pink Army teams to maintain cleanliness standards during polling scheduled for January 15. Polling will be held from 7:30 am to 5:30 pm, with vote counting slated for the following day.

Senior officials have directed assistant engineers of the Solid Waste Management (SWM) department to ensure all polling stations are equipped with two separate dustbins—one for wet waste and another for dry waste—to promote effective waste segregation.

To facilitate voter convenience, 4,200 mobile toilets will be strategically placed across the city and cleaned at regular intervals. At polling centers housed in schools, ward staff will oversee housekeeping duties to maintain hygiene standards. The entire drive is overseen by SWM assistant engineers at the ward level, under the supervision of zonal engineers.

In addition, the BMC will ensure accessibility for voters with disabilities by deploying 6,000 wheelchairs, including 198 from civic hospitals. Dust mitigation measures, such as regular cleaning and mist spraying, will be implemented to enhance comfort during the voting process. Over 64,375 BMC staff members have been mobilized to assist with election arrangements.

The elections will cover 227 wards across 2,600 locations, with polling booths distributed in government premises (4,704), co-operative societies (782), and private premises (5,125). The total number of registered voters is approximately 1.03 crore, comprising 55,16,707 males, 48,26,509 females, and 1,099 others. A total of 1,700 candidates, including 822 men and 878 women, are contesting in this electoral exercise.
