The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has invited students to apply for its prestigious Summer Internship Programme for 2026, providing a rare opportunity to gain first-hand experience of the workings of India’s central bank.
The programme gives interns immersive exposure to economic, financial, regulatory and policy research environments under expert supervision. Applications will close on December 15, 2025.
The RBI internship is open to students in the penultimate year of their postgraduate degrees, integrated five-year courses or professional bachelor’s degrees in disciplines such as Economics, Finance, Management, Statistics, Commerce, Banking, Econometrics, Law and related fields.
Applicants must be enroled in recognised Indian universities or institutions to be eligible.
The internship typically runs for up to three months between April and July of the year following application. The exact period may vary based on project requirements and departmental needs.
After the application window closes, shortlisting and interviews will take place in JanuaryâFebruary, with final selections communicated between February and March.
APPLICATION PROCESS
Interested candidates must complete the application process online through the official RBI internship portal by:
- Visit the RBI internship portal at opportunities.rbi.org.in and select the Summer Internship option.
- Filling out the web-based form with personal and academic information.
- Uploading a recent photograph and scanned signature.
- Providing a valid ID and an institute bonafide or authorisation certificate.
- Submitting a statement of purpose and departmental preferences.
- Applying for placement in one Control Office, usually aligned with the state of study.
The application must be submitted before the deadline to be considered for the next stages of selection.
SELECTION PROCEDURE AND ROLES
RBI typically selects up to 125 interns each year through a competitive process that includes application review and interviews.
Selected interns are placed in various RBI offices across India and contribute to real-time projects, research tasks, data analysis, document review and departmental assistance.
Interns may work in areas such as banking regulation, monetary policy, financial stability, compliance, data analytics and economic studies, gaining valuable professional experience.
STIPEND AND BENEFITS
Selected interns receive a monthly stipend of Rs 20,000.
While the RBI does not provide accommodation, outstation interns may receive reimbursement of an AC II-Tier return rail fare to their assigned internship location.
All interns are also required to sign a declaration of secrecy before beginning their tenure, as they may access sensitive information during their internship period.
