Chandigarh, October 2023 — Renault is preparing to make a significant splash in India’s competitive SUV market with the launch of the all-new Duster 2026. This latest iteration represents a complete generational overhaul, ditching the old boxy design for a rugged, modern appearance designed to appeal to Indian consumers.
A Bold New Look
Teased recently with India-specific modifications, the Duster 2026 boasts a striking, adventure-ready exterior. The vehicle features a squared-off silhouette inspired by global concepts, highlighted by prominent C-shaped LED headlights, a bold grille with the Renault badge reminiscent of a Land Rover Defender, and chunky skid plates and roof rails emphasizing its capability. Flared wheel arches surround 17-inch alloys, hinting at a ground clearance of 210mm, while new color options like Stealth Black and Sunstone Brown add to its visual appeal. The wider and taller stance ensures road presence without compromising maneuverability in urban traffic.
Powertrain Innovations Tailored for India
The 2026 Duster marks the end of diesel engines in Renault’s lineup for India, focusing instead on petrol options. The launch features a 1.3-litre turbo-petrol engine delivering 155PS and 254Nm, now equipped with gasoline direct injection to meet BS6 Phase 2 standards. Paired with either a 7-speed dual-clutch automatic or a 6-speed manual, it promises a 0-100 km/h acceleration under nine seconds and an estimated real-world mileage of 15-17 kmpl.
For urban commuters, a 1.0-litre turbocharged engine producing 100PS will be available in lower trims, with mild-hybrid variants expected to achieve over 18 kmpl. Notably, select variants will offer Renault’s first all-wheel-drive system with terrain modes such as Sand, Mud, and Snow, priced under ₹20 lakh. A hybrid 1.6-litre version with 140PS is anticipated in 2027, targeting 25 kmpl for eco-conscious buyers.
Luxurious Cabin with Tech-Forward Features
Inside, the Duster 2026 elevates its segment with premium features. A floating 10.1-inch touchscreen supports wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, complemented by high-quality Arkamys audio. Dual digital instrument clusters, one for the driver and one for the passenger, display navigation and vehicle data. A panoramic sunroof, ventilated leather seats, wireless charging, and a 360-degree camera with blind-spot detection are available on higher trims. The spacious boot offers 500 litres of capacity, expandable to 1,800 litres with rear seats folded. Ambient lighting and ergonomic design ensure comfort for long drives, with build quality now matching Japanese rivals.
Enhanced Safety Features
Renault has bolstered safety standards across the lineup, including six airbags, electronic stability control, and hill descent control. Higher variants feature advanced driver-assistance systems (ADAS) such as adaptive cruise control, lane keep assist, and automatic emergency braking—rare features at this price point in India. Additional safety elements include tire pressure monitoring, knee airbags, and ISOFIX child seat mounts, all built on the high-strength CMF-B platform designed for crash resilience.
Pricing and Competition
The upcoming Duster 2026 is expected to be priced competitively, with ex-showroom prices starting at approximately ₹11.99 lakh for the base petrol manual variant and reaching around ₹18.49 lakh for top-spec 4×4 Dual Tone models. On-road prices in Chandigarh are projected to be between ₹13 lakh and ₹21 lakh, undercutting competitors like Hyundai Creta and Kia Seltos by a significant margin while offering comparable features.
With a comprehensive feature set, modern design, and aggressive pricing, Renault’s new Duster aims to redefine value in India’s burgeoning SUV market.
