Republic Day 2026: With January 26 fast approaching, India is preparing to celebrate its most significant national holiday, Republic Day, which marks the establishment of the Indian Constitution.
While India gained independence on August 15, 1947, the journey toward establishing the Indian Constitution began shortly thereafter, with Dr. B.R. Ambedkar leading the Drafting Committee. The Constitution was finalized and enacted on November 26, 1949, known as Constitution Day. Subsequently, on January 26, 1950, India officially adopted its Constitution, marking its transition to a republic—a day now celebrated annually as Republic Day.
This year’s celebration marks the 77th anniversary of India’s republic status, with the date falling on a Monday. The event will also honor the rich cultural heritage of the nation, alongside showcasing its military capabilities.
The 2026 Republic Day parade will be graced by distinguished international guests, including Mr. Antonio Costa, President of the European Council, and Ursula von der Leyen, President of the European Commission, emphasizing India’s diplomatic ties and global stature.
